As secretary of the momentous assembly at Seneca Falls in 1848, Lucretia Mott was the moving spirit of the Woman’s Rights Movement in America. Along with Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, Lucretia Mott emphasized the “principles at stake”—stressing the co-equality of woman with man and the right of woman to practice her rights. Her desire was to promote intelligent thinking, her belief being that the essential steps to victory in a righteous cause lay in the ability of the leaders to remain logical.

This biography of a forceful and unorthodox woman makes clear how leadership which she never sought was accorded to Lucretia Mott and why she was regarded as one of America’s greatest women.
